Two cryptid beasts mentioned in the Bible are the Leviathan and Behemoth, mentioned in the book of Job.

Leviathan is a sea monster mentioned in the Book of Job 40-41 and the Book of Psalms; Leviathan may be considered “sacred chaos.” Its description includes large size, a fearsome appearance, and fire-breathing abilities. Some scholars believe it may have been based on real animals, such as crocodiles or whales. The history of Leviathan can be traced to the ancient Near East and appears in the Hebrew Bible, the New Testament book of Revelation, although a new name of Satan.

Even in Psalms, Leviathan reappears in a new form. In Psalms 74:12-17, Yahweh created the world and crushed the head of Leviathan. Psalm 74:14 states, “It was you who crushed the heads of Leviathan and gave it as food to the creatures of the desert.” Psalm 104:24-26 illustrates the wonders of the world created by God and notes, “There go the ships, and Leviathan that you formed to sport in it.” It is instead a pet, not a monster. In Job 41:9-11, even God is astonished at Leviathan’s power and asks, “Who can confront it and be safe?”

Baluchitherium, the largest land mammal ever!

Behemoth is a land animal mentioned in the Book of Job. It is described as a powerful, grass-eating animal whose “bones are tubes of bronze, his limbs like bars of iron” in Job 40:18. According to Jewish traditions, Behemoth and Leviathan may have a battle in the end times. However, this is likely a metaphorical form of a primeval chaos-monster that only God can destroy. Some have speculated that it could be a hippopotamus or an elephant linking the cryptid with an extinct rhinoceros, Baluchitherium, discovered in Pakistan.
